NOTE: When karmic+compiz fails, what happens when I try starting Firefox (for example), a trapezoid shape (small side on bottom) is slightly visible (like the frame is flipping down to vertical) but all (mouse/keyboard have no effect on the cursor or selection of virtual terminal ctl-alt-F#). Only a power down works. </blockquote><div> </div></div>If it worked in Intrepid/Jaunty then it should probably work in Karmic -- I don't think there were any major changes to compiz this release, though I wouldn't quote me on that. This means it may not actually be a bug in the auto-detection. It may simply be that there is something wrong with the driver for your card that isn't exposing its full capabilities properly. If you've already filed a bug against the auto-detection then it's worth raising this possibility in a comment at least. Also, please post a link to the bug here, as any further discussion should probably happen in the bug rather than on this list. All the best, Evan
