It said fglrx was enabled on my friend's laptop, but displayconfig-qt (I guess it's called that) wouldn't go over 800x600 until I manually edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf. displayconfig-gtk made my mom's computer go into 800x600 mode and refused to put it back to 1280x1024. I tried to dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg and it just gave an error saying that it'd been customized and would be backed up so as not to lose the customizations, and then exited. The reconfigure never ran. I tried to just manually fix
xorg.conf and it went to failsafe mode instead. Failsafe brought back displayconfig-gtk which once again refused to use the i810 driver (the card doesn't work with the -intel driver) and would only use vesa at 800x600. I'm just glad I had a year-old backup of
xorg.conf lying around.

--
Mackenzie Morgan
Linux User #432169
ACM Member #3445683
http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com <-my blog of Ubuntu stuff
