On Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS I installed:

* Package: file Version: 1:5.25-2ubuntu1

* Package: libmagic1 Version: 1:5.25-2ubuntu1

both APT-Sources: http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main i386 
Packages

Why do I get the following output:

richter at shodan:~$ file *
file: could not find any valid magic files!
