about nc manual page content

I have found your email address on nc manual page bottom, and I am confiusing about -p and -l option, why there is an description about -l "It is an error to use this option in conjunction with the -p, -s, or -z options”? If I want listen connection on a port(e.g. 5000), I have to use nc with -lp 5000, both LInux and MacOS manual are same about these option.
