Could someone merge usb-modeswitch from Debian - currently usb-modeswitch from Ubuntu 14.10 (and 14.04) doesn't work with latest usb-modeswitch-data releases and doesn't support lots of Huawei (and other) modems :(

Hi Mathieu and other developers, who can update usb-modeswitch in Ubuntu,

I'm writing to you because Ubuntu has an important problem for today's
users - lots of 3G/mobile USB modems are poorly supported in Ubuntu
because of outdated usb-modeswitch (2.1.0) :(

See bug #1308895, bug #1328412, bug #1192297, bug #1354823 and other bugs
at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch-data

It seems, the main problem appears because of Ubuntu improvement -
Ubuntu developers ported usb_modeswitch_dispatcher to C and because of
this every new usb-modeswitch release can't be simply synced from Debian,
see bug https://launchpad.net/bugs/1280546 :

Tcl interpreter for just one tcl script...

I agree with Mathieu, but why Debian doesn't use Ubuntu's ported
usb_modeswitch_dispatcher ?

New upstream versions of usb-modeswitch (2.2.0) and usb-modeswitch-data
(20140529) released 3 months ago and were packaged in Debian unstable
since June!

Ubuntu's usb_modeswitch_dispatcher should be patched againt because of
introduction of parameter "HuaweiNewMode", wrapping the standard bulk
message for all newer Huawei devices and support for generic fallback
config files, combined with OS switch (per vendor ID).

Lots of other Huawei related issues, like bug #1308895 are fixed in
updated usb-modeswitch (2.2.0+repack0-2) and usb-modeswitch-data
(20140529-1) packages in Debian unstable.

Please merge usb-modeswitch 2.2.0+repack0-2 package from Debian unstable
to Ubuntu Utopic.

I think it would be nice to to use /run as TMPDIR for all three init
systems, see

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=751271
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/debian/sid/usb-modeswitch/sid

Here is debian/changelog:

usb-modeswitch (2.2.0+repack0-2) unstable; urgency=medium
 * Add patch to set TMPDIR to /run, add Build-Depends version constraint
to pull a libjim supporting the setting of TMPDIR (Closes: #751271)

usb-modeswitch (2.2.0+repack0-1) unstable; urgency=medium
