Who Developed Ambient Light Sensor support for Macbooks? We need it for other machines!

I was wondering who developed the Ambient Light Sensor support for Macbooks
on Ubuntu. I believe that this support could now be extended to a few other
devices who now have back-lit keyboard and back-lit screens that depend on
these photon sensors.
I posted up a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/804595 ) concerning
lack of support on my Sony Vaio laptop but there are also other machines
provided by such manufacturers like Asus and HP who have the same kind of
mechanism that Macbook users do.
There was a kernel patch(http://code.google.com/p/vaio-f11-linux/) for this
a different series of the Sony Vaio, but this required to patch a plain
linux kernel with out the Ubuntu patches that help with a ton of hardware
support. Maybe someone will be able to integrate these fixes into an update
for the Kernel, or we could just develop something else.
