If I read those correctly, they work neither with or without
usb-modeswitch, hence adding it would not decrease any usability?
Additionally, they seem to mostly use karmic while lucid already has
newer usb-modeswitch and the new usb-modeswitch-data packages, while
1.1.0 is just about landing in Debian testing and therefore lucid.
Potentially those bugs could be also fixed by these updated
rules/packages among other things.

For a multitude of other devices (like my Huawei E1552),
usb-modeswitch already makes the difference of "nothing happens" and

If those problems discussed are bugs that should be against
usb-modeswitch, at least partially, new bugs should be filed about the
specifics what's wrong with usb-modeswitch currently.
