dovecot-postfix package for karmic koala (+ grub 2)

I've been playing with the dovecot-postfix package currently available
for 9.10 a4 server and have found a few configuration issues worth
discussing as well as one major bug (it appears that postfix doesn't
know anything about rsyslog, preventing the administrator from
controlling SMTP logging). Is this an appropriate matter for this list,
or should I take it straight to the package maintainers?

Also, grub 2 appears to have a fairly major and annoying bug which I
submitted to launchpad a week ago with no response so far. The default
/etc/default/grub file won't allow the machine to boot through
automatically to the default OS, although by all appearances it should.
  Through trial and error I discovered that one must set
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT to some non-zero value; i.e.
  GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=1
in order to get the machine to boot without keyboard intervention.
Checking the available documentation for grub2, it seems clear that
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is supposed to govern the visibility of the grub2 OS
selection menu; the parameter for automatic boot is GRUB_TIMEOUT.
