Consider the state of Linux ACPI.  Now rethink that.  Hibernate and
suspend do not work all that well for all that many users.  One of my
friends just got a new laptop.  It shuts down in about 15 seconds.  It
takes 30 seconds after it finishes suspending to power off.  For him,
boot time really does matter, because suspend is unusably slow.
