bug #129910 tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

I'd suggest you follow the various advice given in the comments.

Obviously nobody is interested in getting this bug fixed (well, not the
developers at least), although the fix is trivial and the bug rather serious.

Oh, actually, wait, I've asked the kernel team several time and got an answer:
'just remove vga= from your startup kernel command line'
