From doko at ubuntu.com Sun Jul 9 16:57:27 2017 From: doko at ubuntu.com (Matthias Klose) Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2017 18:57:27 +0200 Subject: First Ubuntu Artful Aardvark test rebuilds (and upcoming GCC 7 transition) Message-ID: <31ae0a78-d393-34f8-231e-d8ce5ea8d428@ubuntu.com> The first test rebuild of Artful Aardvark was started on July 6 for all architectures, all components (main component and seeded packages finished, unseeded packages still building). For arm64 and armhf the gcc-6 packages are based on the Linaro 6-2017.06 snapshot. Results (please also look at the superseded builds) can be found at http://qa.ubuntuwire.org/ftbfs/rebuilds/test-rebuild-20170706-artful.html The test rebuild uses binutils, gcc-6, gcc-7 and linux packages currently still in the proposed release pocket, which can also be found separately in the PPA https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/ppa Additional build failures for packages in artful-proposed (not yet in artful) can be found at http://qa.ubuntuwire.com/ftbfs/ Please help fixing the build failures. Another test rebuild using GCC 7 as the default can be found at http://qa.ubuntuwire.org/ftbfs/rebuilds/test-rebuild-20170706-gcc7-artful.html For arm64 and armhf the gcc-7 packages are based on the Linaro 7-2017.06 snapshot. The test rebuild uses gcc-defaults, binutils, gcc-6, gcc-7 and linux packages currently still in the proposed release pocket, which can also be found separately in the PPA https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/test We are planning the transition to GCC 7 for late July / August. Please help fixing the build issues using the update GCC. Information about transitioning to GCC 7 can be found at: * https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-7/porting_to.html * https://wiki.debian.org/GCC7 * Please forward patches for GCC 7 build failures to the bug reports already filed in Debian (see the above wiki page for the bug list). Matthias From dustin at bashfulrobot.com Fri Jul 28 02:43:09 2017 From: dustin at bashfulrobot.com (Dustin Krysak) Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2017 02:43:09 +0000 Subject: Artful Aardvark 17.10 Alpha 2 Availability Message-ID: "If I had as many friends as that ant, I'd run for governor." - Aardvark from The Ant and the Aardvark The second alpha of the Artful Aardvark (to become 17.10) has now been released! This milestone features images for Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Budgie and Ubuntu Kylin. Pre-releases of the Artful Aardvark are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu flavour developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs as we work towards getting this release ready. Alpha 2 includes some software updates that are ready for wider testing, however, it is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some bugs. While these Alpha 2 images have been tested and do work, except as noted in the release notes, Ubuntu developers are continuing to improve the Artful Aardvark. In particular, once newer daily images are available, system installation bugs identified in the Alpha 2 installer should be verified against the current daily image before being reported in Launchpad. Using an obsolete image to re-report bugs that have already been fixed wastes your time and the time of developers who are busy trying to make 17.10 the best Ubuntu release yet. Always ensure your system is up to date before reporting bugs. [Lubuntu] Lubuntu is a flavour of Ubuntu based on LXDE and focused on providing a very lightweight distribution. The Lubuntu 17.10 Alpha 2 images can be downloaded from: * http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/artful/alpha-2/ More information about Lubuntu 17.10 Alpha 2 can be found here: * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/Alpha2/Lubuntu Also in this milestone is Lubuntu Next, an experimental flavour of Ubuntu based on LXQt and focused on providing a modern, lightweight, Qt-based distribution.
