Minutes from the Technical Board, 2008-07-15

The Technical Board met for a regularly scheduled session[0] on 2008-07-15.
Members Matt Zimmerman, Mark Shuttleworth and Scott James Remnant were in
attendance.

== cdrtools ==

Joerg Schilling has initiated a discussion with the Technical Board about
the possible re-inclusion of cdrtools in Ubuntu.  cdrtools was removed from
Ubuntu 8.04 and later[1] due to concerns which were raised regarding its
licensing.

Decision: Further discussion is required to clarify the issues
Action: Mark will speak with Joerg at OSCON to discuss

== DKMS ==

DKMS was moved into main, which meant that Mario Limonciello was no longer
able to maintain it, as he is not a core developer.  Launchpad is now
capable of granting upload privileges on a per-package basis, and it was
agreed that we would use this as an opportunity to test that functionality.

If this trial is successful, this arrangement may be used more widely.

Decision: Agreed to try per-package upload privileges
Action: Matt to make it so

== Filesystem checking / AutoFsck ==

A suggestion was made to the technical board that Ubuntu could be smarter
about how and when it performs filesystem integrity checks (fsck).

Decision: This should be discussed more widely in the developer community
Action: Scott to start a thread on ubuntu-devel/-discuss

== Technical Board membership ==

The Technical Board is seeking nominations for new members.  According to
our founding documents, "Appointments to the board are made by Mark
Shuttleworth subject to confirmation by a vote amongst the maintainers."

Decision: Solicit nominations from the community
Action: Mark to solicit nominations on an appropriate mailing list[2]
Action: Matt to update http://www.ubuntu.com/community/processes/techboard to reflect the current composition of the board[3]
