Technical Board meeting minutes, 2007-05-22

1. Process for applying to become an Ubuntu Core Developer

   Daniel Holbach of the MOTU Council requested clarification of the process
for applying to become an Ubuntu Core Developer.  In response, the Board
discussed and agreed on a slightly modified process, where an application is
submitted via email in advance, prior to attending a meeting.  The new
process will be documented in the usual place at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewDeveloperProcess

2. Meeting schedule

   Scott James Remnant raised the matter of adjusting the meeting time to
account for Daylight Saving Time, as has been done in the past.  Some other
options were suggested along the way, aimed at trying to accomodate
core developer candidates in distant time zones, avoid no-op meetings,
maintain a regular heartbeat of activity, etc.  In the end, it was resolved
to adjust for DST as usual, but pursue a further discussion among the Board
members about how to proceed.

3. Meeting minutes

   The members of the Board recognized that they have been inconsistent
about keeping minutes and thereby communicating decisions to the community.
MDZ volunteered to communicate this meeting's outcome, and also noted the
potential helpfulness of a secretary to help ensure that this important
communication happens.  Interested volunteers are encouraged to email
technical-board at lists.ubuntu.com.

4. Meeting agenda process

   In a hat trick of administrivia, the Board also decided to revise the
process by which issues can be brought before it.  Rather than encouraging
developers to add items to the wiki page and attend the next meeting, it's
preferable to send email to technical-board at lists.ubuntu.com and have an
initial discussion via email before deciding to discuss an issue at the next
meeting.
