I think that the two best options so far are :<br>

- keeping the default gnome icon theme, which is currently updated and is nicer every day. <br>
- switching to Tango or to a theme that follow Tango guidelines. (But I
admit that Tango itself is way too blueish for my taste. it will never
fitt on an Ubuntu Desktop).<br>
<br>
Those two themes are widely tested and +/- complete. (or it will be in
a not too distant future) They integrate well with the desktop.<br>
<br>
Switching to another theme will :<br>
<br>
- possible bugs or inconsistencies (because of lack of testing)<br>
- possible ugliness (if an icon is missing and the default fallback doesn't fit at all)<br>
- endless discussions on this mailing list because everyone have different tastes.<br>
