Some more testing:
1. Clicking existing printers and trying to open their options dialogs
results in

2. If clicking the "Add.." button a list of printers to add appears. But
the list is useless. For every CUPS queue which is already installed an
entry with "-2" added to the queue name and an SMB URI appears. The
really relevant entries, my USB printer and my network printer (which
appear in "lpinfo -v") are not in the list.
