I commented on the bug, however its not something I am likely to have time to look at any time soon. I see you are a shotwell maintainer?
perhaps you would consider merging the UOA code (with proper run-time selection, somewhat like what empathy for example does) or even just
fixing the patch!

That is correct, however most (if not all) other apps that use UOA have run-time checks to determine wether to use UOA or GOA. Unfortunately
this wasnt included in the shotwell patches and of course shotwell doesn't even use GOA but the principle is the same.
