Backlight support on Dell laptops

Hi.
Backlight support on Dell laptops has recently made great strides in
working under linux. The 0.5.9 release of HAL in combine with the
libsmbios package and the loading of the kernel module dcdbas enables
backlight to work in Ubuntu.

As of now, there is a backport of the 0.5.9 in Feisty Fawn.
Unfortunately, the dell backlight addon is missing from this package.
The cause is probably that the build machine lacked the libsmbios-library.

I would like to know how I can participate in getting the HAL backport
rebuilt with Dell backlight support added, making libsmbios a dependency
of HAL and finally make Ubuntu autoload the dcdbas module.
