Touchpad konfigurieren

Das Paket gsynaptics ist installiert. Will ich jedoch gsynaptics in der 
Konsole aufrufen kommt folgende grafische Fehlermeldung:

GSynaptics couldn't initialize.
You have to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use 
GSynaptics

Der entsprechende Eintrag in meiner /etc/X11/xorg.conf sieht 
folgendermaßen aus.

         Option          "Device"                "/dev/psaux"
         Option          "Protocol"              "auto-dev"

Eventuell liegt hier ja die Wurzel des Problems begraben?
