Das einzig ware: SMART auslesen. Z. b. mit smartctl aus dem Paket
smartmontools:

Bei mir z. B. mit:
sudo smartctl -s on -a /dev/hda

Ich häng mal den Output dieses Befehls an. Man kann sehen das bei mir
einiges an Fehlern angelaufen ist. Das ist mal passiert als mein
Netzteil gestorben ist, da lief das ganze System sehr instabil, und
offenbar setzte die Wackelspannung auch der Festplatte zu.

Eigentlich ist es schade das dieses mächtige Tool nicht standard-mässig
genutzt wird um den Anwender zu warnen. Unter Windows existiert es gar
nicht und unter Linux nutzen es auch nur wenige da es wenig bekannt ist.
Festplatten sterben zu >90% nicht von heute auf morgen.

Vorgestern erst habe ich eine Festplatte austauschen müssen, das WinXP
bootete nicht mehr.
Mit Hilfe einer Knoppix und smartctl hab ich festgestellt das die
Festplatte ab Betriebsstunde 3900 Fehler im SMART vermerkte, nun aber
bei Stunde 5900 den Geist ganz aufgegeben hat. Wenn man bedenkt wie
lange das Problem theoretisch bekannt sein könnte, ziemlich bitter
Gigabyte-Weise Dokumente zu verlieren...
