I'm a newbie so I'm unsure of what forum to use...

On the Ubuntu documentation SoftwarePackagingFormats is said
        about
        RPM's, that
        "
The red hat package manager or .RPM is format specially designed
        for
easy installation and management of software packages.RPM allows
        you to
install, upgrade and remove software packages. It tracks
        dependencies and
will not install software if it depends on another package which
        is not
        installed.

To convert RPM packages to debian package format use command
        ALIEN. New
users: don't use alien method, If there are DEBs available you
        should
use them or you might severely screw up your system.
        "
After installing Java Studio Creator 2 Update 1 I get the
        message that
the RPM packages need to be installed: compat-libstdc++,
        compat-libstdc
        ++-devel.
Are there .deb equivalents or how do I proceed. My machine has a
        1 x AMD
        Athlon 64 3800+ / 2.4 GHz processor and I run Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.
