Ubuntu-cy available in Gmane NNTP!

Ever wished to read anonymously our mailing list without having to
download everything?
Ever got tired of me blabbing about various information that you
simply don't wish to read?
I know I sound like an ad, but this is really good.

You can read our mailing list with any NNTP newsreader!

List of compatible newsreaders applications:

Mozilla Thunderbird users: As expected, your application has support for nntp!

The link to use is:
nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ubuntu.user.cypriot

For example (Ubuntu):
- Download XPN newsreader. Open Applications > Accessories > Terminal
and execute:
gksu apt-get install xpn

- You'll be asked to set up the server you wish to use. Click "Yes".
Click "Add".

Here's the info you need to type in:
Server:  news.gmane.org
Port:     119

If you feel like your neighbour wants to steal your news and rub it in
your nose, you probably want to use SSL.
If the client application supports it, you can, here's the info in that case:
Server:  news.gmane.org
Port:     563
Check "Use SSL"

Click "OK", but don't close XPN Preferences window.

- Click "User" ➔ "Add"
This will be your identity. No need to use anything special.

Identity: YourName Kipropoulos
Personal Information: YourName Kipropoulos
Email address: youremailaddress at example.com

Click "OK".
Click "OK" again (closes XPN Preferences).

- Go to menu File ➔ Groups List ➔ Get newsgroup list
Wait while the program populates the list.

- To add the ubuntu-cy, under "List" (tor left) type in: cypriot
Click on "Search Group".

Select the group "gmane.linux.ubuntu.user.cypriot".
Now click on the button with the arrow pointing to the right ("➔").

Press "OK".

You're now subscribed yourself to all the ubuntu-cy emails!
Click on menu Subscribed Groups ➔ Get new headers in Subscribed Groups
(or just press CTRL+H).

On the right you'll see a list, click or double click on a mail
subject/topic to read it.

We have now concluded this simple "how to". May the Usenet (NNTP) be
with you... anonymously! :)
