Right on cue, Google has announced the 2016 contest:
https://opensource.googleblog.com/2016/10/announcing-google-code-in-2016-and.html.
I would suggest reviewing our previous years tasks for those that went
well and plan to do the same. We've saved the previous year's
application (I think), so we should have a starting point on that as well.
