Moving the Ubuntu Wiki to Mediawiki or something else?

The Canonical IS team has been working on improving the behavior for
years. They've added caching, stopped crawling of bots and spiders,
lots of things that have made the wiki hobble along as mostly
readable, but as someone who uses the wiki every week for the
newsletter, it's still very painful to use. In fact, these
improvements that have been made to keep it running, also make it
harder to use by normal users.

So I'd say your proposal has already been tried, continually, for
years and isn't working.
