Notice of Harassment

Hi All,
Ben, from what I can tell from this thread, Randall made a decision he felt
was in the best interests of the community (a decision that later had mixed
responses), and you privately sent him a clause from the CoC to suggest
that he is not meeting the expectations there.
>From what I can tell he then responded to you privately and you shared this
publicly on a mailing list without his permission.
I think this was a mis-step in two key ways:
1. Merely sending a clause from the CoC is not a particularly productive
email. If you want to share your private thoughts with him, so be it, but
maybe add more color about why you felt his actions were not right.
2. More importantly, from what I can tell here, you forwarded this thread
to a public mailing list without Randall's permission. Speaking personally,
I consider this to be a breach of someone's privacy. Private email
discussions, private IRC chats, or private social media discussions are
inherently private - when there is a 1-to-1 discussion the social
convention and presumption is confidentiality, unless this is explicitly
prescribed as something that can be shared publicly.
My concern, Ben, is that if you share private conversations without
people's consent, particularly in a way that is designed to show them up
(as this seemed to be), people will stop having private conversations with
you and not talk with you in confidence.
I like you, Ben, and I am sharing these thoughts as a friend, so I hope you
take this within the spirit it is intended.
Thanks,
