1) Update your BIOS

2)Install GRUB using a FLOPPY DISK then direct it to boot from the
Ubuntu CD (search GOOGLE for a tutorial on booting linux with
floppies) or http://www.toms.net/rb/ [FAQ
http://www.toms.net/rb/tomsrtbt.FAQ]

3)Download and install Minimal Ubuntu then later install a graphical
interface (http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Minimal-Ubuntu-Linux. After
install, type
$ sudo aptitude install x-window-system-core gnome-core
(or gnome, if you want a full desktop environment).
 If you also want a gui login, then also install gdm.
                      or
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-gui-in-ubuntu-server.html
                      or
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/gui-for-ubuntu-server-463053/

4) If all of the above does not work, then get a fresh new copy of
ubuntu and try installing again. Your copy must be corrupt or broken.

Regards
