I assume you're using the 10.04 that comes in the image store for uec,
and not your own so we can skip problems with the emi.
Here are a few ideas:
Make sure your node is communicating with the CC by running
euca-describe-availability-zones verbose
You should be attempt to connect to the instance, not the node.
Run euca-describe-instances to see your running instances and their IP
addresses. Then connect using the key you specified when you ran the
instance.
Install (if needed) and run nmap from the CC or another machine that
can reach the subnet your elastic IP's are on and make sure port 22 is
open on the instance. If it is not look into your security group
configuration and adjust, and terminate/relaunch the image joined to a
group that has ssh enabled.
