People who like Ubuntu and Cloud tech might be interested in Tahoe- 
LAFS, which is packaged in Karmic:

Tahoe-LAFS is the first storage system to offer "provider-independent  
security".  That means that the confidentiality and integrity of your  
data do not depend on the behavior of the servers.

Tahoe-LAFS also uses erasure-coding, which is like "better RAID than  
RAID" to spread the data of each file across multiple servers.

The combination of these two features means that it is possible to  
use multiple independent cloud service providers so that your data  
continues to be fully available even if some of the providers you  
employ are currently down.  At the same time, none of the providers,  
nor even a conspiracy of all of the providers, are able to read or  
alter the contents of your files.
