Hi, unfortunately it is not that simple. He (David) is not a spammer,
he has previously been posting relevant messages to the list. Probably
a spammer just used his address as From address. You can see from the
full headers of the spam message that it was sent to his other e-mail
address as well as to the list, and to some other friends(?) of him.
It was sent from this IP address, seen in the headers:
Received: from SNT143-W56 ([65.55.90.73]) by snt0-omc2-s27.snt0.hotmail.com
In the worst case, his computer has been compromised and acts as spam zombie.
*** Anyway, please do not reply to spam messages, and especially, do
not quote them, because this makes it harder for (adaptive) spam
filters to filter out this stuff correctly. ***
Somebody also forwarded the message to the SolNet SPAM Clearing
Center, which concluded that this was not spam and responded back to
the list. (Their reply was held back for moderation because they are
not subscribed to the list.) I am not sure if this kind of forwarding
is useful for our list, but maybe those who forwarded it can comment
on that.
Best regards,
Tormod
