Hi Ubunteros,
* Some good news:
The OpenExpo will print (for free) two posters for us! Thanks to
Antivirax and Erwin we'll have one poster in French and one in German.
Bart got confirmed from Ship-it that they will send us 75 CDs! Thanks
for following up this, Bart. They said the CDs will arrive in time,
but we should be prepared in case they won't. The backup will be to
collect old ship-it CDs among us, and burn new ones.
We also got the permission from OpenExpo to have sponsored Ubuntu
flyers (or with ads on the backside), as well as permission to sell
USB sticks. I had to ask about this, because they have some
restrictions on the free project stands (no direct advertising for a
company etc).
* Flyers project:
Time is closing in and there is not much contributions. I see some alternatives:
- Someone among us make a great flyer (the next few days). We have
enough money pledged for printing costs, thanks to your generousity.
- - We could quickly find a linux-friendly company sponsor for the
printing. But they would probably want to see the flyer design before
accepting.
- If the flyer design is not so great (if I have to hack something
together in a hurry) I don't think we should spend the big money on
them - then rather go for the cheap ones with ads on the backside,
just to have something to hand out.
- - I was thinking about a flyer combi-design that with two strokes of
scissors would also serve as a CD leaflet/cover, for instance that
would fit into those paper covers with transparent window. Would be
great for burning CDs ourselves. And all for 79 CHF :)
- - Make a better flyer after the Expo, 4 pages, sponsored etc.
* Ubuntu-on-a-stick:
I think I can sort out the technical part, make an installer script
for preparing USB sticks on the fly etc. But we need a shop/company to
deliver the sticks, and which will let us return unsold sticks. And
hopefully give a good price. We'll sell non-profit. There are maybe
some candidates on the Ubuntu Marketplace that sell USB sticks?
I think many companies would be easier to convince if they get a nice,
well-written letter in their own language. Can someone among you step
up to write a letter in German and in French? Or do you know a shop
where you can ask?
Your comments are welcome!
Best regards,
Tormod
