Thank you for this tip. I had noticed some slow down in loading time of some sites so figured I would give it a shot.

John aka IdleOne

On Mon, Dec 7, 2009 at 7:07 PM, Andy Boersma <andy@boersma.ca> wrote:

It's a bug in DNS and IPV4/6

There are a couple of temporary fixes for that, I use the openDNS fix only
uses 1 file and easy to undo later if you want.

Edit the file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf

You’ll see a line commented out (If not add your own)… that says:

“prepend domain-name-servers YOUR_DNS_IP_HERE;”

I uncommented it and added openDNS servers and changes changed it to:

prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220,"YOUR_LOCAL_DNS";

YOUR_LOCAL_DNS = your LAN DNS server IP.

Restart network or PC.

I recommend that everybody does that, speeds all network access in Ubuntu.
Subject: Computer extremelly slow

Hello everyone,

I had a problem with my computer becoming extremely slow about a month ago.
After playing around with it I found that it seemed to be a problem with
flash on Firefox, so I installed flash-block which made things a lot better.

However I'm still getting a huge lag on my system with many other programs.
Firefox is still slow, even opening a high resolution picture takes over 5
seconds. I'm not sure what the problem is, and was wondering if anyone is
having a similar problem.

Here are my specs:
Computer - Dell Inspiron 1300 - 9.04
More system info - http://wazem.org/temp/forums/ubuntu/slow-pc/sysinfo

Output of top when opening firefox and a high rez pic:

Cheers!
