web cam

Hi, I posted a request for info about getting a webcam to work on skype
with my pc running ubuntu 14.04 and unity and I tried all the tips in
ubuntu help to no avail, my 2 daughters are also using ubuntu 14.04 on
their laptops and they have no problems with skype, can I assume that the
camera type is the problem for me? It is not listed in ubuntu wiki skype
webcams list. thanks
