I would also try testing without using the flip at all, just in case there
was a change in one of the protocols or implementations that causes the
flip to no longer function correctly. Without knowing how your flip works
makes it difficult to rule it out.
Basically, start from the very basic, simplest implementation (connect to
localhost), then start re-adding your complexity (remote connection, new
port, port flip, ssh tunnel, etc) slowly until it breaks.
