If the laptop touchscreen is Windows 8 compatible, it will just work with the Linux drivers.
You may find the support for touchscreens in most Ubuntu software is pretty limited, especially support for multi-touch
gestures. Pointer emulation (ie. single touched working like mouse clicks) is well supported but it turns out most
mouse-style controls are difficult to work with fingers. There are a few games (eg. solitaire, tile-pairing, and 2048)
that work better with touch. The Unity 7 shell has good multi-touch gesture support.
Touch interaction is much better supported in the upcoming Unity 8 environment: many of the core apps have been
redesigned with touch in mind.
