Personally I investigated many ideas to make cheap calls,but for me the best option is still Skype.
Canada is becoming uncompetitive also for the phone costs.
Many SME (small ,medium enterprises ) in Europe use Skype with a Skype number.

I do have skype, but it is not a shandy as a phone.

I only use it on special occasions or preplanned long discussions with friends or special parties.

I use a phone a lot for business. 

I had thought about looking further into skype to see if there are other ways to use it as a  regular phone,

 that I do not know about.

Probably will do that.

The link that Bob provided to a forum on magic jack problems has some info that might be helpful in resolving the problems of MJ.

Hi I use "freephoneline.ca" he re in canada. I think is "fongo" in the us.

Many free city, work like paycard for the others.

Cost me arount $100 box to have it as normal home  phone.  No othet fee afterward.

I'm quite satisfied.
