You're trying out Ubuntu 14.01 Beta in VirtualBox?
You probably need to load the VirtualBox Guest Additions, which
provides a virtual display driver that lets the Host resize the guest
window on-the-fly.
You can get an .iso image of the guest additions with
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-additions-iso
It should then be available to attach as a "virtual CD/DVD disk file"
from the Storage Settings for the guest.
The disk image will be visible to the guest as a DVD, and contains
scripts and executables to do the installation of the guest additions.
Once the guest additions are installed you can then select from the
guest's VirtualBox menu "View, Auto-resize Guest Display".
Hope this helps!
