Re-imagining

I have a working assumption that Randall's comments mirror Canonical's position, but I emphatically disagree.

IMO, the Ubuntu Forums are the primary support channel. Well, after Google. However, most people need better imaginations to come up with good Google queries.

When I use Google to look for answers, askubuntu turns up about 5% of the time. Various blogs collectively provide more answers, as do vendor sites and the Community Docs.

Mailing lists are a slow way to get support, but have the advantage that you get a feel for who knows what they are talking about, and whose suggestions should be ignored.

Specifically, the Yahoo Ubuntu group seems to help a few people.

I completely agree about IRC.

About the above stats: in a typical month, I get involved in more than 100 questions in the Forums or which come to me directly. (questions at fullcirclemagazine.org)
