hardware

Hello all,  how can I find what version of Ubuntu I am using and what are
the attached hardware to my computer. Since going to the latest version of
Ubuntu I cant find this info, easily. I have checked in the applications
under "computer" and it only list's the CD drive and file system. I don't
normally need this info but someone asked me and I know I used to be able to
find this information easily before.? Thanks
