usb camcorder

Hi Chris, I followed your suggestion and installed "ubuntu restricted
extras" from synaptics also googled for "DVD subpicture decoder"  and
installed and CD and DVD,s work OK, mainly with VLC. So, many thanks for the
right pointers. One problem remains, when I connect the camcorder through
usb port, nothing happens?  any ideas ?  I wonder why these programs for
using videos are not included in the distro?  Thanks.
