wireless problems with Ubuntu 10.10

Every now and then my laptop loses its wireless capabilities just out of the
blue - often when I close the lid. The only thing that works for me is a
complete restart. My wireless router occasionally loses its connection with
reality, but usually that just affects my husband's Windows laptop. Then it
needs to be unplugged & plugged in again.
