A person here had a Thinkpad, and needed Wifi. At the time I was using a
Netgear USB to Wifi thing, using the Windows Driver. A person in town,
had problems with Netgear disconnecting, like I did on Ubuntu, so I
tried TP-link that disconnected too. Random Disconnecting. He said he
used D-link and he let me try one, it worked perfect, with Windows 7 and
Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 32/64 Bit. So I gave him the TP-link he gave me
the D-link. He put it on a Windows Machine. Worked real great. Then I
went and got a D-link USB to Wifi thing, Didn't work at all! Same model!
NIB - New in Box! Didn't make any changes, except for Upgrades at the
time, it took a few weeks to arrive on Ebay! I have both a USB Dial-up
Modem and Wifi, hooked up Either one or the other working, on My Tower.
Still using the Net Gear as sometimes it works for hours just fine, then
disconnects. Using the Windows Driver. Ubuntu at first didn't need a
special driver for the D-link, It worked as soon as it was plugged in.
Now it does not! Maybe it is that SP-3 - Service Pack -3 Upgrade :)
(Just a little Joke!) D-link stopped working in Windows with a Service
Pack Upgrade.

Some of you that are good at Programming, might want to try and make a
Wifi Driver, for one Brand, something that does work and does not
Disconnect at random. Or get in touch with the Instructables.com Crowd
to have them experiment with that Adruino Computer to make a USB - Wifi
Dongle that works in Linux. They do that sort of thing! They can perhaps
make devices that can interface between items that Linux can't use right
now. They are Hardware / Software Hackers and Makers.

Alfred!
