Hi Ray,

Are you still able to logon with your password (either to GDM or a shell tty)? 
If so, it could be that the user is no longer part of the admin group or sudoers 

list.

Ok. Sorry, but I don't have anything else to suggest, other then the password 
was setup differently for this laptop. I have had this happen when I setup the 
OS, the name I gave the machine, was accepted without the numbers in the name.
