Out of curiosity:

Is the reader built into the laptop?
If not, is it powered?
does it have the option to be powered?

I have a card reader which is also a USB hub. If I have a bunch of
things plugged into it (Keyboard, mouse, etc.) sometimes the card reader
part doesn't work so well. I recently had trouble with an high capacity
SD card, but it came with a DC plug and when used that everything is fine.

Just a thought,
Phil
