Video cards

Most of my or clients (family/friends/coworkers/strangers) cards have
worked when Intel or nVidia (my GeForce 6800 worked beautifully but my
sister's GeForce 6200 does not).

My new laptop has a ATI Radeon HD5470M and support for it is thin! I
had to do some funky things to get the properitary drivers to work,
and so far in Maverick, they're non-existent.

Unless you're looking for serious graphic power, I would suggest the
slightly older (and therefore cheaper) GeForce 6800 or 8800, as they
are supported beautifully.
