Yeah it does not work for me either, most likely a bug in gnome-panel. I
have created a bug report on launchpad (feel free to
confirm/subscribe/mark as affecting you) and connected it to the
existing bug upstream:

I recommend getting a two button USB mouse and Right-click the panel ->
Add to panel. Should not cost you more than $10.
