In my opinion, if you're just running a desktop or laptop, you do not
need either.
There are no known viruses for linux. Clamav is usually used to
scan Windows hard drives or scan incoming mail on a server.
Firestarter is a graphical front-end to linux's built-in 'firewall'
called Iptables. You should only need this if you have a server
running on a local network (like file sharing) or have a direct
connection(pppoe or other) to the Internet.
