Random thought, but the upgrade path from 9.04 to 10.10 will be 9.04 ->
9.10 -> 10.04 -> 10.10.  The upgrade path from 8.04 to 10.10 will be
8.04 -> 10.10 (since you can always upgrade from one LTS directly to the
next) which may be a much simpler, more appealing upgrade path.  Just
that alone may make it worth finding server hardware that Just Works
with 8.04.

Regardless, make sure to avoid Adaptec RAID cards.  Never hear anything
but how much headache and trouble they cause...assuming they work to
begin with...
