If free firmware is what you're after then you are probably looking
for something Rock Box related. Unfortunately all currently supported
models are no longer in production so you would be limited to the used
market.

If you check the forums you might find other/current players with
support in subversion if you're willing to compile (and test...)
yourself.

Others: As others have pointed out iAudio seems to have had consistent
OGG support for a number of years across all/most of their devices.
You can probably do it with a jail broken iPod touch/iPhone but they
are expensive. Something like the Nokia 770/800/810 should have the
capability. Any Linux netbook should have the capability (but
portability comes into question there).
