Help me to spend wisely

Howdy all

I mostly lurk here, but have found this group to be full of folks who have an excellent range of skills & experience.

My problem is that I have just be informed that our organization ( a non-profit research/education institute with ties to several Canadian universities) has been given an IT infrastructure grant of about $50k. The catch is that I have until this wednesday at noon to provide the details.

The "plan" will have to prep us for the IT data needs for the next 5-7 years. (Yikes!!)

We do not do a lot of huge D/B work, but expect a huge increase in video archives, as well as delivering video-conferences around the world.

I would like us to upgrade our V.C. services to HD, or as close to that as I can get.

The problem is as always with technology, that as soon as you get caught up, newer, faster, cheaper slaps you up the backside of the head.....

What I am asking for is some specific vendor/brand recommendations, as well as ideas on "future proofing" our existing infrastructure.

Its all very tabula rasa at the moment, so wild ideas are part of the consideration.

Thanks in advance

regards
Ken
