You might see if there is POS Software. Point of Sale, for Linux. In the
Games section there is a dos Emulator, that might be able to run the
free Dos POS software if there is no Linux POS software. You put a
number on each Item type. Then in the software you note the Price,
Taxes, Discounts, etc. When a Customer presents the Item for checkout
you type the number in -and how many, or in some versions use the Bar
Code Scanner. Then it prints up the Expensive piece of paper - the
receipt, and in a data base puts how many left the store for inventory
purposes. Plus keeps a record of daily income, and tax totals collected.

We're looking at integrating a gift shop inventory/ordering/point of
sale system. I tried doing that in OOo Base and couldn't produce
anything usable. Filemaker comes with basic working examples of all
these that the students who've been taken on to do the work can start
with.

I haven't tried Kexi yet. I'm installing it as I write.

Thanks for the ideas.

Leslie
