Maybe thats an alternate process you could attempt.  Disable ALL plugins and re-enable them one at a time to attempt to determine if there is maybe a conflict between addons.  Stranger things have happened.

I would say that if you've downloaded all of the necessary codecs for your system that allows you to play videos in Mplayer (etc) then the issue would have to be specific to your FireFox.  In that case disabling ALL plugins and re-enabling them one at a time might allow you to determine which ones work and which combinations of them don't work.  Try disabling all video-related codecs and re-enabling them one at a time, trying Youtube after each one.

Sorry guys if I've missed something along the way as I haven't been following this thread too closely, but I experienced something similar awhile ago.

While in Firefox I would occassionaly not be able to play any YouTube type of movie.  I discovered, while poking around that I had more than one version of Flash, or rather I had more than one "add on" installed that played Flash.

I went to the Tools menu, clicked on Add ons, then chose the Plugins tab.  Displayed are all of the addons currently active in FF.  Look for duplicate plugins but with different versions and look for more than one plugin that indicates that it plays Flash and disable them.  Of course leave one active and see if that works for you.

Again sorry if I've already said what someone already has in the past.
